What is a Geographic Information System (GIS)?

A GIS is a specialized type of information system that focuses on the capture, storage, management, analysis and display of geographic or location based information. A GIS can be visualized as being made up of 5 components: hardware, software, data, people and policies/procedures.

Some examples of GIS based applications include:
  1. Showing the spatial distribution of golf courses across Ontario with the ability to search for golf courses using specific criteria or select any and get additional information on that golf course.
  2. Land parcel inventory with the ability to create new parcels, split a parcel into 2 or more parcels, merge 2 or more parcels into one; search for parcels meeting specific criteria; print reports on one or more than one parcels.
  3. Asset management system where the asset is spatially displayed and linked with existing business systems such a document management system, work order management system, etc.
In addition, we also offer the following services:
 
Spatial Data Management — includes Preparation / updating of spatial data, analyzing existing dataset, database Fine Tuning apart from Data Conversion, Modeling, Integration services, Projection and transformation. QC/QA tools are developed for checking the correctness of spatial data, tools for automating data capture, data migration and data updating.
